The Centre for Science & Art at Abbotsleigh Senior School in Wahroonga brings two curved wings, one for science and one for art, together around a raised, glass-enclosed bridge. Designed by AJC Architects and built by Lipman, the building sits among remnant blue gum forest and between two heritage houses.
DC Partnership provided Building Code Consultancy and Fire Safety Engineering, engaged by Bloompark Consulting on behalf of Abbotsleigh, and stayed with the project from design through construction.
The staged building extends across several school-owned allotments and sits close to the heritage Lynton House. DCP developed an integrated fire safety strategy that allowed the building to sit across the site as designed, without the school needing to amalgamate its lots, and followed it through site inspections as each stage was completed.
The centre was completed in 2023 and won the 2023 MBA NSW Excellence in Construction Award for Private Schools ($20m to $50m).
