Prefecture 48 is a one-of-a-kind Japanese restaurant set within a heritage building, where the dining experience is defined as much by the architecture as by the cuisine. The project balanced the need for modern safety with the desire to showcase the building’s historic timber fabric and unique character.
DC Partnership acted as the Fire Safety Engineers, with our strategy directly informing the architectural outcome. Through detailed fire engineering analysis, a deep understanding of the legislative framework, and collaboration with both the design team and council’s heritage advisors, we enabled the original timber to remain exposed while achieving full compliance. The result is a bespoke dining venue that is both safe and immersive, offering a new lease on life for a historic building while honouring its heritage.
