Grimshaw + TKD Architects (heritage)
The Sydney Terminal Building at Central Station is one of Sydney’s most significant heritage landmarks, now undergoing a major revitalisation led by Grimshaw with TKD Architects as heritage advisors. The project seeks to breathe new life into the historic sandstone terminal while enhancing its role as a civic gateway for future generations.
DC Partnership was engaged as an independent fire safety peer reviewer, tasked with assessing the fire safety strategy prepared by others. Our role focused on validating whether certain physical interventions recommended in the base strategy were truly necessary, or whether they could be refined or avoided through the careful application of fire safety engineering principles. This approach ensured the building’s safety was uncompromised, while minimising unnecessary impact to its heritage fabric.
The result is a more balanced and sensitive compliance pathway that respects the architectural and cultural significance of the Sydney Terminal Building, while still ensuring it meets modern safety expectations.
