The Workhouse is a commercial redevelopment in Chinatown, Sydney, delivered through a program of alterations and additions to adapt the building for contemporary use. Located on a tight inner-city site, the project required inventive planning and precise compliance strategies to maximise usable space while retaining functionality and character.

Spatial constraints shaped our approach, with circulation, sanitary layouts, and access needing careful integration. We drew on international standards and guidelines to support efficient bathroom design and rooftop usability, while maintaining compliance with Australian regulations. Our strategy balanced practicality, inclusivity, and design vision, enabling the delivery of a safe and high-performing commercial space within a challenging urban footprints.
